GARP RAI October 2026: Is the Official Practice Exam Enough to Pass?

The official GARP RAI Practice Exam is one of the most valuable preparation resources available—but it is not enough by itself to prepare most candidates to pass.
RAI registration includes the complete curriculum, end-of-chapter review questions, a practice exam, performance monitoring, and personalised study-planning tools through GARP Learning. GARP estimates that candidates typically require 100–130 hours of preparation and specifically discourages last-minute study.
The practice exam should therefore be treated as a final diagnostic and exam simulation—not as a substitute for learning and applying the curriculum.
What the Official Practice Exam Can Tell You
The actual RAI Exam contains 80 equally weighted multiple-choice questions and allows four hours. Most questions are standalone, although some may share a common scenario.
The official practice exam helps candidates assess:
Whether they can complete 80 questions within four hours
Whether they can switch efficiently between technical, risk, ethics, and governance topics
Whether they can apply concepts to short business scenarios
Which chapters continue to produce repeated errors
Whether their knowledge remains available without notes
Because the practice exam is produced for the current GARP program, it is more useful as a readiness audit than an unofficial mock assembled from old or uncertain material.
However, one simulation provides only one sample of your performance. A strong result may contain questions that match your strengths, while a weaker chapter may receive limited exposure.
What the Practice Exam Cannot Replace
The official practice exam cannot replace systematic study of the five tested curriculum modules:
History and Overview of AI Concepts
AI Tools and Techniques
Risks and Risk Factors
Responsible and Ethical AI
Data and AI Model Governance
GARP confirms that the separate case studies and practitioner perspectives in Module 6 are optional and are not tested.
The practice exam also cannot provide enough repetition to repair every weak learning objective. If you misunderstand precision and recall, model drift, explainability, fairness, data lineage, or governance responsibilities, seeing one related mock question may identify the problem without correcting it.
That correction must come from the curriculum and end-of-chapter questions.
When Should You Take It?
Do not take the official practice exam at the beginning of your preparation simply to discover your starting score.
First complete:
One full pass through all five tested modules
The associated end-of-chapter questions
A review of the official 2026 Study Guide and Learning Objectives
Short mixed-question sessions across multiple modules
GARP’s Study Guide identifies the number of exam questions associated with each chapter and the learning objectives candidates are expected to master. Use it to verify that your preparation covers the entire tested scope.
Ideally, take the practice exam with at least two weeks remaining. This preserves time to repair the weaknesses it reveals.
Use a Five-Category Error Audit
After completing the practice exam, do not review only the incorrect answers. Include every correct answer that involved uncertainty or guessing.
Classify each problem as:
Knowledge failure: You could not recall the relevant concept.
Distinction failure: You confused two related techniques, risks, or controls.
Application failure: You understood the concept but could not apply it to the scenario.
Quantitative failure: You selected or interpreted a metric incorrectly.
Question-reading failure: You overlooked an important condition or qualifier.
Then write a one-sentence correction:
“I would answer this correctly next time if I recognised that…”
For example:
I would answer this correctly next time if I recognised that the scenario concerns post-deployment model monitoring rather than initial model validation.
This records the decision trigger you missed instead of merely copying the answer explanation.
Build a Repair Set From Official Questions
For every weak chapter, return to GARP Learning and complete a focused repair cycle:
Review the relevant learning objective.
Explain the concept without looking at the curriculum.
Complete the associated end-of-chapter questions.
Retest the concept after 48–72 hours.
Add it to a mixed set with questions from other modules.
Require at least 80% accuracy on the focused questions before considering the chapter
repaired.
For scenario errors, identify four elements:
The AI system’s purpose
The stage of the model lifecycle
The principal risk
The control that directly addresses that risk
This prevents candidates from selecting a generally sensible governance action that does not solve the specific problem described.
How to Get a Second Readiness Signal
GARP provides one RAI Practice Exam with registration, so your second readiness check may need to be created from unused official end-of-chapter questions.
Build two timed blocks of 40 previously unseen questions and complete each within two hours. Mix all five tested modules and avoid checking answers between blocks.
This is not another official practice exam, but it tests whether your performance remains stable beyond one simulation.
A practical readiness benchmark is:
At least 70% on the official practice exam
Similar accuracy on fresh mixed official questions
No tested module consistently below approximately 60%
Limited dependence on guessing
Few repeated errors
These are preparation benchmarks, not official GARP passing scores. GARP reports results on a pass-or-fail basis and does not publish a fixed percentage required to pass. The October 2025 pass rate was 66%, but that figure represents the proportion of candidates who passed—not the required percentage of correct answers.
The Practical Answer GARP RAI October 2026 Practice Exam
The official RAI Practice Exam is enough to test your preparation, but it is not enough to create that preparation. GARP RAI October 2026 Practice Exam
Use the curriculum to learn, the end-of-chapter questions to build application skills, the Study Guide to confirm complete coverage, and the practice exam to identify whether those elements work together under time pressure.
