GARP RAI October 2026: What Mock Score Means You Are Ready?

GARP does not publish a fixed percentage that guarantees a pass on the Risk and AI Certificate Exam. The RAI Exam is graded on a pass-or-fail basis, and candidates receive quartile information comparing their performance with other candidates. Results are released through the candidate portal within four to six weeks after the examination window closes.

For preparation purposes, a practical readiness target is:

At least 70%—56 correct answers out of 80—on two fresh, fully timed practice exams.

Understand What the Mock Must Replicate

The October 2026 RAI examination window runs from 3–11 October 2026. Standard registration remains open through 30 September, and candidates may schedule appointments through 9 October. All published deadlines are measured at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time.

The examination contains 80 equally weighted multiple-choice questions completed in four hours. Most questions stand alone, although groups of three or four questions may use a common introductory scenario. Candidates therefore have an average of three minutes per question.

A valid readiness mock should be:

Previously unseen
Completed without notes or external resources
Finished within four hours
Taken in one continuous sitting
Reviewed for guesses as well as incorrect answers

An open-book score or a score obtained from repeated questions should not be compared directly with exam-day performance.

How to Interpret Your Score

75% or higher: Strong readiness

A score of at least 75% means answering 60 or more questions correctly.

This is a strong readiness signal when it is reproduced on another mock and does not depend on one exceptionally strong module. At this stage, concentrate on recurring mistakes, scenario interpretation, and maintaining knowledge rather than restarting the curriculum.

70%–74%: Credible readiness

A result between 56 and 59 correct answers is a reasonable readiness range when:

You achieved it on two separate mocks.
The questions were unfamiliar.
You completed the exam within the time limit.
No curriculum module remained materially weak.
Most correct answers were based on identifiable reasoning rather than guessing.

Two scores of 70% and 72% provide stronger evidence than one score of 78% followed by 61%.

65%–69%: Borderline but recoverable

A score between 52 and 55 correct answers suggests that you may be close, but the error pattern matters more than the percentage.

The result may be recoverable when most lost marks come from a narrow group of issues, such as:

Confusing supervised and unsupervised learning methods
Misinterpreting model-performance measures
Failing to identify data-quality or model-governance risks
Confusing fairness concepts
Selecting a technically possible control that does not address the risk described

Do not immediately take another full mock. Repair the repeated errors first, then test them using new questions.

Below 65%: Return to targeted study

A score below 52 correct answers normally indicates that significant gaps remain.

Full mocks can locate those gaps, but repeatedly completing simulations will not necessarily correct them. Return to the relevant learning objectives, explain the concept without notes, and complete short question sets before attempting another full exam.

Use a Confidence-Adjusted Score

A raw percentage can exaggerate readiness when several guesses happen to be correct.

Classify every correct answer as:

Confident: You knew the answer and could explain the reasoning.
Uncertain: You narrowed the options but were not completely certain.
Lucky: You selected the correct answer largely by guessing.

Calculate:

Adjusted score = confident correct answers + 50% of uncertain correct answers

Give no credit to lucky answers.

For example, a raw result of 58 correct answers produces 72.5%. However, when eight were uncertain and four were lucky, the adjusted result becomes:

46 confident + four adjusted uncertain = 50 out of 80, or 62.5%.

The adjusted score is often a more realistic measure of repeatable performance.

Apply Module Floors

The official 2026 curriculum covers five tested modules:

History and Overview of AI Concepts
AI Tools and Techniques
Risks and Risk Factors
Responsible and Ethical AI
Data and AI Model Governance

GARP confirms that Module 6 case studies and practitioner perspectives are optional and are not tested. The official Study Guide and Learning Objectives also identifies how many exam questions are associated with each curriculum area.

Use the official question allocation when reviewing your mock. As a practical rule, avoid considering yourself ready when any tested module remains below approximately 60%, even if your total score exceeds 70%.

Analyse Scenario Questions Separately

Because some questions share a common scenario, track whether errors result from missing curriculum knowledge or misreading the lead-in.

After each scenario set, ask:

Which fact identified the principal risk?
Which fact was irrelevant or distracting?
Did the question ask about the model, the data, deployment, governance, or control?
Did I choose a general AI principle instead of the most appropriate response to the specific case?

This analysis is more useful than simply writing “governance mistake” in an error log.

Use the Official Practice Exam Correctly

Registration includes access to the full curriculum, end-of-chapter questions, and an official RAI Practice Exam through GARP Learning. GARP estimates average preparation at 100–130 hours and recommends following a weekly study schedule rather than preparing at the last minute.

Preserve the official practice exam until you have completed the curriculum and substantial mixed practice. Use it as a readiness audit, not as your first exposure to exam-style questions.

You are showing credible GARP RAI readiness when you can:

Score at least 70%, or 56 out of 80, on two unseen timed mocks
Maintain approximately 60% or better across every tested module
Complete all questions within four hours
Explain most correct answers without relying on guesses
Avoid repeating the same errors across consecutive practice sets
