GARP RAI Online Proctored Exam: System Check, Room Setup, and Exam-Day Rules

The GARP Risk and AI Certificate Exam can be taken remotely through Pearson VUE’s OnVUE system. For October 2026, the exam window runs from 3–11 October, and scheduling remains available through 9 October 2026. Candidates must book at least 48 hours before their chosen start time, subject to availability.

The RAI Exam contains 80 equally weighted multiple-choice questions and allows four hours. Online testing removes the journey to a test center, but it introduces strict technology, workspace, identification, and conduct requirements. A preventable setup failure can stop the exam from launching.

Run the System Test on Your Actual Setup

GARP says the OnVUE system test is not formally required, but strongly recommends it. When a candidate skips the test and cannot complete check-in, the session may end without a refund, credit, or free deferral.

Run the test using the same:

  • Computer

  • Internet connection

  • Webcam, microphone, and speakers

  • Room

Testing a different laptop or network does not establish that your real exam setup will work.

GARP’s current technology requirements include:

  • Windows 10 or macOS 13 or later

  • A webcam, microphone, and speaker

  • One display screen only

  • At least 6 Mbps download and 2 Mbps upload

  • A stable connection, preferably Ethernet

Touchscreens, phones, tablets, headphones, earbuds, watches, virtual machines, beta operating systems, VPNs, and corporate networks are not compatible with the approved setup. Secondary monitors must be disconnected.

When the test identifies a problem, use the support chat on the OnVUE page before exam day rather than hoping the issue disappears.

Prepare the Room Before Check-In

Your desk or table must be clear. Books, paper, notebooks, sticky notes, pens, pencils, mobile phones, and other writing objects cannot remain within arm’s reach. Additional computers and monitors must be unplugged and turned off.

Inspect the room from the webcam’s position. Written material on walls, including whiteboards, may be examined. During check-in, you must photograph the testing area, and the examination will not begin until the proctor approves the room scan.

Use a private room where no one will enter. Tell other people in the property that you cannot answer the door or speak during the session. Ask them not to stream video, play online games, or download large files while you are testing.

Plug your laptop into power before check-in. GARP warns that you cannot leave the webcam view during the examination to connect a charger.

Verify Your Identification

Your identification must be:

  • Original rather than a photocopy

  • Valid and unexpired

  • Government-issued

  • Printed with your current photograph

  • Printed with your signature

Every first name, last name, middle name, and initial in your GARP registration must appear on the identification. Digital identification is not accepted.

The ID generally must be issued by the country in which you are testing. Otherwise, GARP requires an international travel passport. Resolve any name discrepancy before exam day because GARP states that there are no exceptions to its identification policy.

Complete Check-In Carefully

Restart your computer, close unnecessary programs, and connect the laptop to power.

Log in to your GARP account, select Begin Exam, and continue to OnVUE. The check-in process includes:

  1. Testing the microphone, speakers, webcam, and network.

  2. Entering a mobile number.

  3. Photographing yourself, your ID, and the testing space.

  4. Accepting the exam rules.

  5. Closing every application except OnVUE.

  6. Waiting for the proctor to approve the room and launch the exam.

A phone is required for check-in, but it must then be placed out of reach. Accessing it during the exam can cause immediate termination. Candidates who check in after their scheduled start time are treated as late and may lose their exam fee without receiving a refund or deferral.

Know the Rules During the Exam

No breaks are permitted during an online-proctored RAI Exam. Leaving the computer for any reason causes the proctor to terminate the session. Prepare for a continuous period of up to four hours before beginning check-in.

You may not use physical scratch paper or a personal calculator. OnVUE provides an on-screen digital calculator and digital whiteboard. Practise organising short calculations and notes digitally before exam day.

Remain visible and follow the proctor’s instructions. When a technical issue occurs, use the OnVUE Chat function immediately rather than leaving the workstation or reaching for your phone.

Final 24-Hour Checklist GARP RAI Online Proctored Exam

Repeat the system test, clear the room, disconnect extra displays, verify the exact name on your appointment and ID, connect the computer to power, and protect the internet connection from heavy household use. GARP RAI Online Proctored Exam

Online proctoring is convenient only when the environment is controlled. Treat the system test and room preparation as part of the examination—not as last-minute administration.
