1) Key dates & how to lock your seat GARP SCR Exam Dates, Registration & Test Logistics (2025)

The SCR exam runs twice a year; in 2025 the fall administration is Oct 18 – Nov 1. That range contains multiple daily slots across Pearson VUE centers and online proctoring; seats release on a first-come basis, so schedule early—ideally right after you register.

Your 2025 fall timeline GARP SCR Exam Dates, Registration & Test Logistics (2025)

  • Now → Sept 30: Register during the Standard window.

  • By Oct 30: Schedule your appointment (date/time/location or OnVUE).

  • All deadlines (registration & scheduling) close at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time. Set personal reminders if you’re outside the U.S. to avoid time-zone surprises.

2) Fees, membership savings & how payment works

GARP’s pricing rewards existing members and credential holders:

  • Non-member: US$750 (standard)

  • GARP individual member: US$650 (standard)

  • FRM/RAI/ERP holder: US$625 (standard)

  • Retake (one time within the next two windows): US$350

Registrations must be paid in full by the deadline (11:59 p.m. ET). GARP accepts major credit cards and selected electronic/wire options; note that wire/ACH may add processing fees. Seats aren’t guaranteed until payment clears.

Tip: If you know you’ll test this fall, schedule immediately after paying—you must schedule at least 48 hours before your desired start time, and popular sites/times can sell out.

3) Format, timing & what’s actually tested

The SCR exam is a single, stand-alone certification—no multi-level ladder. It focuses on practical climate and sustainability risk competencies:

  • Question count: 80 MCQs, equally weighted

  • Casework: One case study embedded in the exam

  • Time limit: Four hours (a generous window that rewards careful reading and scenario analysis)

  • Recommended prep time: ~100–150 hours depending on background

GARP’s official domains include climate science foundations, transition/physical risks, policy/regulation & reporting, green finance instruments, scenario analysis/stress testing, governance & disclosure, and risk modeling approaches.

4) Delivery options: center vs. online

You choose how to test:

  • Pearson VUE test center (CBT): Traditional, proctored environment. You’ll store personal items in a locker, use an on-screen calculator, and receive an erasable board/pen for notes.

  • OnVUE online proctoring: Test at home/office with a webcam, mic, and stable connection. You’ll use a digital whiteboard and on-screen calculator; no physical notes or scratch paper are allowed. Run the system test well before exam day and avoid corporate VPNs or locked-down networks. Either mode delivers the same exam and security standards. Choose based on your tech reliability and comfort with testing environments.

5) Policies that matter (and trip candidates up)

Deferral: You can defer once to the next window by paying US$150 by the deferral deadline (Oct 1 for the October window). Requests after the deadline aren’t approved.

Refunds: You have 48 hours after paying to request a refund. After that, the fee is forfeited if you don’t test (unless you use the one-time deferral correctly).

Scheduling/rescheduling: You must schedule at least 48 hours before your desired start time. You may reschedule or change sites up to 48 hours before the appointment (subject to availability). Missed scheduling or no-shows forfeit fees.

ID & name match: Your ID must be original, valid, government-issued, and unexpired with photo and signature. Your registration name must match exactly (including middle names/initials). Digital IDs aren’t accepted.

Prohibited items: No personal items in the test room—electronics, notes, watches, jewelry over specified sizes, food/drink, etc. For centers, you’ll use a locker; for online, your desk must be completely clear and you’ll complete a 360° room scan.

Calculators & notes: An on-screen calculator is provided. Center candidates receive an erasable board; online candidates use a digital whiteboard only—no paper.

Late arrivals: Arriving after the appointment start time leads to denied entry and fee forfeiture (no refund/deferral). Build a buffer.

6) Your step-by-step playbook to exam day

Two weeks out

  • Confirm your appointment and test mode in your Pearson VUE account.

  • For OnVUE: run the system test on the exact computer/network you’ll use; disconnect extra monitors; ensure admin rights for the secure browser.

One week out

  • Re-read exam policies—especially ID, prohibited items, whiteboard, and break rules (no breaks online; center breaks are at proctor discretion with the clock running).

  • Plan transit and backup routes if you’re heading to a center.

Night before

  • Pack your ID; avoid name mismatches (accents, hyphens, middle names).

  • For OnVUE: tidy the room; remove notes/post-its; position your webcam; update/restart your machine.

Exam day

  • Test center: Arrive 30 minutes early; store belongings; follow proctor instructions.

  • OnVUE: Start check-in 30 minutes early for the room scan and ID check. No leaving the camera view once launched.

Time management

  • With 4 hours for 80 MCQs, target ~3 minutes per question on your first pass and flag time-sinks. Case-study items demand careful reading—budget a larger block there.

7) Registration to certification: the full journey

  1. Register for the October window (by Sept 30) and pay the applicable fee.

  2. Schedule your seat (by Oct 30) at a Pearson VUE center or via OnVUE; ensure it’s ≥48 hours before your desired start.

  3. Prepare with the SCR eBook, the full-length practice exam, and GARP Learning. Plan 100–150 hours of study time.

  4. Sit the exam (80 MCQs, 4 hours).

  5. If needed, retake once at US$350 in either of the next two windows; if life happens before the exam, consider a deferral by Oct 1 (US$150).

Understand the deadlines, policies, and delivery options ahead of time, and exam day becomes about execution—not logistics. If climate risk is central to your role (or the role you want), the SCR is a direct, credible way to signal practical proficiency to employers and clients alike.
